We made a simple observation: although digital banking has become instant and convenient, group finances are still stuck in the past. We found ourselves constantly sending payment reminders, and chasing down friends for contributions.

We asked ourselves two simple questions: Why is splitting expenses so tedious? Why can't a trusted third party manage the collection, keep everyone updated, and distribute the payout automatically?

We set out to build a tool that lives natively in WhatsApp, integrating secure payment rails with the ease of social messaging. Grupy is the result of that vision: a simple, secure, and stress-free way to pool money with people.

Whether it's splitting the expenses for a weekend getaway, collecting money for a colleague's birthday gift, running a neighborhood stokvel, or organizing a weekly braai, collecting money from groups can be notoriously difficult and the burden of chasing payments usually falls on one person.

It usually involves manual calculations, sharing bank account details, constant reminders, awkward follow-ups and delayed refunds if you want to leave the group contribution. We want to eliminate this friction entirely.

By combining the popularity and simplicity of WhatsApp with real-time banking rails like Clickatell's Chat2Pay, we have built a solution that coordinates splits, tracks settlements, and handles payouts automatically.
